I’m a victim.

Actually, it’s worse than that. I willingly gave in. Even though I swore I never would.

For the first time in my 7 years of using Facebook, I did the unthinkable. I clicked on a Facebook Ad. This Facebook Ad:

Facebook Advertising

I had to – I couldn’t help myself! Here’s why:

  1. It connected with my interests. Years ago, I raised my hand because I “Liked” the folk/bluegrass band Nickel Creek. (No – they’re nothing like Nickelback. Gross.) 🙂 And OK, I admit, I also “Like” one or two other folk bands (I’m from Wayne County, folks!). This ad lead with “Nickel Creek fan?”. Yep – grabbed my attention with that! Then the copy mentioned “folk” music. Struck another chord with me . . . 😉
  2. It made an emotional connection with me. I was instantly reminded of a problem I’ve been facing. You see, Nickel Creek disbanded in 2007. Bummer! Since then, I haven’t been able to find a worthy replacement… in 6 years! So, when I saw “Nickel Creek”, I did a double-take. Questions were instantly churning in my head: “Nickel Creek? What about them? Are they reuniting?…” Essentially, the ad instantly pulled on my deep (fanatic) desire for new Nickel Creek music.
  3. It provided a potential solution. It didn’t take me long to realize this ad wasn’t going to take me to any Nickel Creek music. BUT – that’s ok, because Jenny and Tyler piqued my curiosity. They were offering to fill the void that Nickel Creek was leaving in my… ears. So of course I was willing to give them a shot.
    And I did.
    And they delivered.

THIS IS THE WAY FACEBOOK ADS ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK, PEOPLE!

This ad wouldn’t work for everybody – and it’s not intended to. In fact, the ad itself wouldn’t be considered that great. But it was intended to work for meand it definitely got my attention.

I’m sure Jenny and Tyler are specifically targeting “People Who Like Nickel Creek” on Facebook (Yep, you can do that… and much more…). They know my interests, and they know of the void. And they’ve created a message that connected the dots.
