My Near-Death DIY Experience

Are you a do-it-yourselfer? I would say that I am, but my wife might disagree. I once had a near-death experience with DIY. I was running new electrical in my basement man cave. I forgot to turn off the power at the main electric box… my pliers hit the main power supply and… BOOM!

Are you a do-it-yourselfer?

I would say that I am, but my wife might disagree.

I once had a near-death experience with DIY.  I was running new electrical in my basement man cave. I forgot to turn off the power at the main electric box… my pliers hit the main power supply and… BOOM!  I saw a burst of bright blue light, I was knocked on my butt, dropped my pliers, and the house went dark. When I finally stumbled out of the dark basement, found a flashlight and got the lights back on, I discovered that the power surge had actually welded the ends of my pliers together!

How I survived that, I will never know.

DIY can be great if it’s something you are good at, something you enjoy doing. In other areas, like my basement electrical project, it can be incredibly stupid, costly, and not all that fun.

I have learned something important about Spire’s customers. You don’t want your website to be a DIY project. Whether it’s building a new site or keeping the content current, you just want someone to help you get it done and get it off your plate.

I didn’t really understand this when I first started Spire. (Perhaps it was that voltage to my brain from the basement electrical project.) But if you are like most customers, you choose Spire because you want us to just get it done.

Your time is valuable, and you can’t afford DIY on stuff you don’t even like to do. Right?

Our website design projects have been simple and done-for-you for many years.

And now, we’re looking at the process of how you keep the website current.

It’s not uncommon for those website edits to fall to the bottom of a to-do list. The website can quickly become outdated, which can lead to stress and missed opportunities. In June, we will be rolling out “Done-For-You Web Support Plans,” which will bundle website hosting with 2+ hours of done-for-you support every month. You will be able to quickly submit a ticket and get those updates made to your sites without having to login and do it yourself.

We will always provide access to the tools you need to make edits yourself, but sometimes it’s just easier to let someone else get it done.

Take it from me, DIY can be dangerous. Probably not as dangerous as that basement project of mine, but when it’s time to upgrade, let Spire get it DONE for you, and done right.

Interested in Done-For-You Support?

If you already have a website hosted with Spire, you may be interested in upgrading your hosting to include done-for-you support. We will be rolling out a special offer for Spire customers in June 2021, where a limited number of customers can get a big savings on their first year of DFY Web Support.  I expect these limited slots to fill fast, so drop us a line now if you would like to be notified when it rolls out.
