As a small business owner, you know the feeling of being pulled in a million directions. Are you missing out on these hacks to increasing your productivity?

Whether you’re a startup business taking the first steps toward success, or you’ve been established for 30 years in your community, knowing productivity hacks benefits each and every one of us.

What most people do not realize, and thus don’t use to their advantage, is that living a productive lifestyle begins from the time you wake up until you go to bed at night. Here are eight tips to keep in mind as you go about your busy life!

Before Work:

Starting your day on a positive note sets the pace for a successful day, which turns into a successful week!

1. Get a Full Eight Hours.

You’ve heard this one thousand times before now. Nothing quite prepares you to take on the day like a good night’s rest. This is one of those things where you have to make time for yourself, and that’s okay! It may take a few nights to get into the groove of going to bed at a decent time, but once your head hits the pillow you’ll thank yourself in the AM.

2. Eat Breakfast.

Aside from your full night of rest, also have some breakfast before you start your day. Getting some fuel to keep you energized until lunch will help you focus. We all know what that 10AM hunger feels like, beat it by having some cereal or a breakfast bar, if you’re on the run!

At Work:

With coffee in hand, you’re ready to start your day. Make the most of it!

3. Make a list.

Once you’ve shifted into work mode, sit down and review your priorities to accomplish for the day, every day. Make a list, use a task management system, get all of the clutter out of your head and on paper. With the more practical stuff written down somewhere, you open up your mind to curate new ideas and have a hard copy of “to do’s” to check off! You’ll feel more productive instantly.

4. Get the Hard Stuff Over With.

No matter how much we love our jobs, there’s always that one thing that is more difficult than the rest. By getting the hard stuff out of the way when you first get in you have the rest of the day to breathe easy! You also have much more willingness to get the hard or tedious stuff done at the start of your day. Make the most of it, while you have the most energy.

5. Breaks Matter.

Taking a break from time to time (not just lunch) is perfectly fine. If you work for an hour and a half and need a breath of fresh air, stepping outside to give your brain a rest actually helps you. You’ll feel renewed and ready to go in the long run.

6. Turn off Push Notifications.

This may come in handy in more places than just for getting work done. For now, let’s paint the picture of you really hammering through your day. All of a sudden, you see your phone lighting up with push notifications.  With constant updates on Groupon deals or being notified that your great aunt commented on your Facebook picture, you’re instantly distracted and lose your train of thought. This is a huge dent in your productivity level. By turning off your push notifications you eliminate the sense of distraction they’re so good at.

After Work:

The time has come to close out of emails, minimize windows on your computer, and exit work mode. Whether you work from home or your have an office you commute to, directing all of your attention toward your business leaves you feeling drained. Rejuvenate! Spend the evening with your loved ones or take some time for personal growth before the next day.

7. Exercise

Whether you practice yoga to find your evening calm, or a jog revives you, a little exercise each day goes a long way. Don’t feel limited to only working out after work, if you’re the type of person that enjoys waking up early to get a workout in then go for it! When we exercise, our brains release endorphins that make us feel great. When you feel good about yourself, you’re ready to conquer whatever lies ahead of you.

8. Eat Right.

A part of productivity is fueling your body properly to carry out your daily tasks with efficiency! Aside from eating three meals a day, remember to have a balance of nutrients on each plate! There’s a saying that goes, “A colorful plate is a healthy plate.” Use vegetables and fruits to add pops of color and make your meal tasty and visually appealing!

A productive day requires a productive lifestyle. You have to take care of you to get your job done, and well! As you go about your day-to-day responsibilities, use these productivity hacks to your advantage.
